Electrician Projects Part 2: Surround Sound
In Part 1 of this series, we explored home theater installation with the help of an electrician. In Part 2 of this series, we will cover surround sound, which is another component of home theater installation. Part 3 of this series will be about home theater lighting.
An Electrician and Surround Sound Installation
According to WIKIPEDIA, surround sound is:
technique for enriching the sound reproduction quality of an audio source with additional audio channels from speakers that surround the listener (surround channels), providing sound from a 360° radius in the horizontal plane (2D) as opposed to “screen channels” (centre, [front] left, and [front] right) originating only from the listener’s forward arc.

Surround sound is characterized by a listener location or sweet spot where the audio effects work best, and presents a fixed or forward perspective of the sound field to the listener at this location. The technique enhances the perception of sound spatialization by exploiting sound localization; a listener’s ability to identify the location or origin of a detected sound in direction and distance. Typically this is achieved by using multiple discrete audio channels routed to an array of loudspeakers.
Don’t Do it Yourself, Call in an Electrician
To read more of this article, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surround_sound. If you’re looking to install a surround sound system, call in an electrical contractor. Surround sound requires special wiring, as does home theater installation, and as a result, it is not recommended to do it yourself.
A good surround sound system will come with an assortment of speakers from large sub-woofers on up. An electrician will position the speakers at equidistant points in the room and may even do the home theater equivalent of a sound check to determine the acoustics of the room.
Pick the Right Speakers with an Electrician’s Input
Above all else, you want the right speakers for your room and your budget. Don’t go cheap though. There’s an old saying that you get what you pay for. So save up your money, get the system you really want, and hire the right personnel to install your surround sound: namely an electrician.
